I have been privileged to live during a time that saw such events as;

Transcontinental television began with a speech by President Harry Truman.

Dwight D Eisenhower became President.

Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat in Alabama.

Dr Jonas Salk developed polio vaccine.

American Bandstand began…and ended some thirty plus years later.

Explorer I is the first US satellite to orbit the earth.

First domestic air passenger service began.

Disneyland opened…so did Disney World,  Epcot Center, Universal Studios.

Barbie made her debut.

BIC introduces the Ball Point Pen.

Alaska and Hawaii become the forty ninth and fiftieth states.

Super Glue was invented.

Mickey Mouse Club first appears.

Chrysler introduces the first power steering for automobiles.

Pocket sized transistor radios are introduced to the US by a Japanese company, Sony.

Velcro is patented.

Howdy Doody is big on TV.

Tupperware is invented.

Saddle Shoes are the fashion.

Elizabeth II is coronated Queen.

Elvis becomes ‘king’.

The hula hoop is invented and so is the Frisbee.

T.V Dinners and McDonald’s introduce us to ‘fast food’.
